beach chick
quote chookiehen: (sorry cant do the quote thing) My children, since the move, have spent every waking hour, dry or wet, when they are not at school, on the streets. I'm not making any judgements on your mothering skills, but you don't sound as if yours are the sort to be knocking on the door either ridiculously early or ridiculously late. you're also very lucky if you live somewhere they can do all that in safety and with enough other kids around for there to be a big group of them (safety in numbers and all that). I take the view that we've got a massive garden, I'm quite happy for their friends to be here, they don't need to be out on the streets and I don't want them out there anyway. horses for courses and all that... Guest
My lot know that if they were seen to be bothering anyone, they'd be in their beds, with no tv, no game boy with no discussion. We've had more than our fair share of misery caused by children who have no consideration for their neighbours, and my children have been brought up to respect others, and their privacy. Luckily, there are 'spys' on every street that they play on, and any misbehaviour would soon get back to me! We don't have a proper back garden here - it's a mountainous incline that even the chickens won;t climb. I think (and hope!) that the difference between my children, and the children and parents that you are really talking about are that my children (and myself I think!) have been taught manners and respect. beach chick
I totally agree with you! manners and respect (g*d, I sound more like my grandmother everyday!) we had a little boy who would ride his bike up and down outside our house virtually all day, knock and ask to play, or for mine to come out. if invited in would stay ALL day - and I mean all day. eventually I had to go and see his mum (coz I was worried she didnt know where he was) and she just said "oh he's ok, he plays out all the time, I dont mind what he gets up to". well, I jolly well do!!! luckily for us they moved away, but I still worry about him...
