Miss Millies Chicken
I have two smallish ponds in my garden and last night they were heaving with amorous frogs I counted at least 63. Yesterdays warm weather must account for the big love in. Usually have a few frogs but nothing like these numbers. Today theres a mass of frogspawn. Anyone else noticed more frogs than usual this year
craftyhunnypie
Oh don't tell me that it's a bumper year for frogs, as got one yesterday ( see I've been brave thread) & I've got a stream going through my land. One I handled, but 63 + ooo no! Emma.x
Daphne
seriously impressed, I have a wildlife pond but no frogs, although I do have newts. Is this early or about the right time for froggies? It sounds like you are doing a very good job indeed! At the weekend we dug out a bank and a huge toad rolled out. I think he may have been hibernating (although do they hibernate?) I'm so glad I didn't prong him with my fork. I picked him up and he opened both eyes slowly and slowly moved about, he was lovely I put him back in a safe place and I hope he survives PS I know there is another thread going about peoples fear of/overcoming frog aversions! Cross posted with Emma!
AJuff
I'd LOVE a pond!! A real one . . I have a large shallow tub trug which is my pond. Small but it has floating planks in so the bbes can drink without drowning. Plus hostas and a bit of pond weed. I do have plans for a much larger pond but I'm waiting for DS to out grow football in the garden!!!!
Miss Millies Chicken
Frog numbers are back to normal tonight approx 6. The frogspawn is a little earlier this year. The weather over the last week has been very mild and this has triggered them to mate. Saw my first butterfly of the year today.
