camping meals?

Recommended Posts

I've bought a tent, for us to go on holiday in. DH and children have never been camping, and although I love it, I am struggling to come up with ideas for meals that can be cooked on the camping cooker. So, thought I'd ask if anyone here has any tried and trusted recipies.

Thanks in advance :D

For our first meal, I made a beef stew at home, froze it and used it as an ice pack in the cool box and reheated it in the evening. We had it with crusty bread and it was delicious (if I do say so myself  ) We had pasta with a sauce, soup, hot dogs, cooked brekkie one morning (hard work but worth it) I'll trying to remember what else we ate  If it comes to me, I'll let you know. Basically, anything you can cook in one pot is the best. We had two single burner stoves for the 5 of us and that was perfect.

We always take a frozen meal like that too for the first day. I find pasta a bit of a pain because you have to drain it, rice is easier. We eat Barbeque food obviously, If there is a good local supply, also vegetable chilli, curry etc, less to worry about having to keep cool. When we do a camping fry up, we do by frying sausages, bacon, mushrooms etc then put the eggs in the gaps and you sort of end up with a fry up omelette, sometimes with runny egg sometimes not depending upon the skill of the cook and the non stick of the pan.

Although I don't camp (& never will!), I would think that Couscous would be easy too,as it only needs a bit of Bouillon & some hot water to 'cook'

We had Couscous last night with sautéed courgette, onion & Mushrooms & sliced sausages in it - it was delicious

Try Glamping, Cinnamon, might be more your style.

The couscous sounds lovely! I'll give that a go I think.
