I have read somewhere that chicken houses (and hedgehog houses) should never face north or north east. I am assuming this has something to do with cold northerly or easterly winds (or rain). Our Eglu is sited on grass inside a large WIR but I move it about everynow and then because it helps maintain the grass. As the Eglu has ventilation holes above the door but also a gap where the poop tray slides in - both could be sources for draughts. So does anyone else worry about which way their Eglu faces?

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm not really worried about it - just curious. I found the source of information in an old poultry magazine and it said - the chicken house shouldn't face north or north east 'for obvious reasons'. Sorry, but the reason was not obvious to me!! So.... the chooks will continue to wake up facing whichever I move their Eglu. I am pretty sure they don't really notice - they just rush out for their grub!
