urbanchick
Do chickens eat geraniums? They are the only "soft" ground level plants that I would be upset to lose to my feathered friends (due 5th July) and I have rather alot of them. I will get netting if necessary but would rather avoid the expense if it is probably not needed. p.s If I don't get any replies I will assume none of you have geraniums in your garden and won't be offended in the slightest. p.p.s. I love this forum!!
Mrs Frugal
I wonder whether geranium leaves might be too highly aromatic for them. I've not noticed mine touching them in the garden and the same applies to my highly scented herbs which are still immaculate. The leaves on geraniums are very smelly, aren't they so they may well leave them alone - fingers crossed anyway! Nice to have something in flower that's not a chicken delicacy . chelsea
dunno about geraniums but I love this forum too !! also - my chickens eat none of my plants/flowers/tubs & containers in my garden - is that weird or what??
starboyhull
Hi Redchick, Mine seem to peck at everything, including my lovely lillies which have been waiting to flower for over a month..........But, mine dont seem to bother with the geraniums that are in pots.....Thats only my experience though...... They even have a go at a palm that I have, which is not soft at all.......
Mrs Frugal
Mine were eating my tomato plants this afternoon. Grotbags!!
SallyD
I don't think they do! They seem to be one of the few plants in my garden that haven't been eaten! However they do get trampled on and my girls have decided to make a dust bath amongst them! So it might be wise to protect them anyway.
