mcflinders
We're just thinking about 2-3 chickens & I love the classic. We are thinking about keeping the chickens on our front garden. Has anyone done this? I'd be a bit scared of the classic getting pinched but would like to utilise our large front garden space & leave the back garden for our little boy. Any advice would be most appreciated.
jasperaliceuk
I wouldn't feel comfortable. I live in a pretty respectable area but would not put it past someone to interfere with them, just local youngsters coming back from the pub do stupid things like flip back windscreen wipers, sidelights, put things on cars. I've had solar lights nicked. They would probably delight the children going by but at night I would be worrying. Mind you, had thought of putting them in the front garden for a bit of free ranging to do some weeding for me! Sue
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . Is your back garden big enough to section a bit off for your chickens? Omlet (or similar) netting can be really useful for keeping them where you want them. That way, your little boy could have the fun of watching them but still have a poo-free play area . mcflinders
We live in a rural village and have been to visit a house where they have made a chicken run & coop in the front garden. I'm uncertain and will think hard about whether we can make room in the back garden. Thanks for your advice. I'd be interested to hear if anyone does have chickens in the front garden though......! coco
We had a strip of grass in the front of the house but to the side. I have a large WIR on it now, a smaller house and run on what used to be the vegetable patch and tow rabbits tucked round the back of the greenhouse. I padlock all the doors but haven't had any problems. We live in a cul de sac. The neighbours pop across with thier grandchildren to give the girls dandelions when I am at work. LolaLayla
I suppose it depends if it would be visible from the road. If it was behind a high hedge then you could possibly manage. Our neighbours use part of their front garden for a trampoline but it is well hidden.
fluffy chick
I guess it depends on the area and how much passing traffic / walkers you get passed. I would put mine in the front where I am quite happily if I needed to
