Helicobacter infection

Recommended Posts

Anyone had treatment for this? I have started 2 antibiotics (high dose) and continues with my Pantoprazole a tummy tablet. The Helico germ can cause gastric problems. I fully antiscipate a week spent in the loo :vom: ( sorry too much info) as antib's always do that to me. I have had years of gastric probs and numerous tests and hope this might be the beginning of the end. Have months of throwing up - several gastroscopies and nil found. MY dad and his mum had duodenal ulcers. Just wondered if anyone had had treatment and what they were like after.

Oh yeah - I had that. :vom: It was about 8 yrs ago so I've forgotten some of it.

I'd say definitely look at the probiotic tablet as hot drinks don't kill the little bacteria's :) and remember that its better to get rid of the helico and the risk of nasties (my paranoia leading to my endoscopy and the other oscopy which found them started with my dad succumbing to stomach cancer).

Good luck with it. Eat a bit healthy (if you don't already) and take the probiotics and you'll be fine.

How are you getting on?

I come from a family with various gastric problems, Hyatus hernia, stomach ulcers and my dad had a ruptured oesophagus that put him in hospital for a month. I am on Lansoprazole for excess stomach acid which I was given when I was diagnosed with my underactive thyroid. I went to the Dr complaining of a constant lump in my throat which was my thyroid gland as it happens but when I had the camera tests they noticed that I had a lot of acid erosion which didn't surprise me and when I told them of the family history I was put straight onto meds that have made me a lot more comfortable.

Fine thanks - so far so good - only side effect was thrush so treating that too!!! Had the tummy pain for first few days but apart from some indigestion which I think is side effect of the anitb's I can enjoy my morning cuppa without feeling sick. Miss my occ glass of vino but come weekend I can have one. Thanks for asking Ali x

My husband had the triple therapy a few years ago after a perforated DU.

He didn't really suffer at all, but then he was very ill due to an Hb of 6.3 so he didn't complain about the meds!

He didn't really have any ill-effetcs though, but I think he was one of the lucky ones.

Kazmac - sorry pressed submit too soon - hope OH is ok now - nasty DU - dad had one in the 1960's and had half his stomach etc removed so did his mum. So I suppose 2 weeks of antib's is nothing - I just dont like feeling under par.

Yes, he's fine now thanks. On long-term Omeprazole though. When he remembers to take it that is ........

Hope you start to feel better soon - it's rubbish feeling ill and mouth ulcers are so sore.

Once you're a bit more recovered and your meds are finished, just keep thinking about that glass of wine!
