What makes a chicken coop easy to live with?

Hi

I thought my hens didn't like the grub feeder so I bought some small clip on pots which I have filled. Also tried dog bowls but they just walk all over it and tip it out. They are still not eating much and there are less and less droppings in the tray when I empty it out. Not sure if there is a problem though. They will eat corn treats so I am wondering if they are waiting to get those in the afternoon. Wondering whether to stop all treats but don't want them to be hungry. If they can see we are around they pace up and down and look starving - bit worried about it.

Also does anyone use another type of feeder as taking in the food each night is a bit of a pain - would be good to keep a feeder topped up but also be good enough to stop any vermin getting in.

Any ideas anyone?

Hens dont eat a great deal from about 18 weeks old till they start laying - then they will eat for England!

 

I use hanging feeders in most of my runs, they do the job well

I'm a fan of hanging feeders too. Seem to get much less spillage with them.

I would cut out all treats, they are holding out for them.

 

Their appetite will increase massively as soon as laying is imminent.

I have one that is laying the other 2 aren't. Has any one got a hanging feeder in an eglu run and which one will work well without taking up too much space?

I have the green and white feeders and drinkers which I use in the cube and eglu classic run, just suspend them from the roof so that they are level with the hens' backs. I use an unbent wire coat hanger.
