What a difference two days development makes! Friends who don't keep chickens are also amazed at the development and are making a mental note of the due hatch date. chestnutmare Posted May 26, 2012 Author Share Posted May 26, 2012 We have chicks! They hatched on Day 20 and Day 21. They've been for their vaccinations and the vet showed the surgery the chicks as 'they didn't believe chicks were coming'. Here are a couple of pictures. It's cheep cheep cheep now - I'm even 'hearing' cheeping as I do my Tesco shop. Edit: Thank you Debs, and Chrissie - spot on. Exhausting. You'd think, 'they're just eggs/chicks' but debating every move is tiring, and no doubt being our first hatch we were extra anxious. The hatch was spread over Day 20-21, although pipping was seen on Day 19. We had one little chick not hatch and you do beat yourself up about it a little - maybe I should have done this, that. But 7/8 developing eggs hatched, that's not bad and the 7 of them are active little chicks. A rollercoaster of emotions... the worrying thing is I think OH may have enjoyed it even more than I did! We have a silkie and 2 pekins in our mixed bantam bunch, the silkie I so hope is a girl, the pekins I think there is one of each, the prettiest is the boy They are a worry and I am still worrying at 7 weeks about putting them outside, thank goodness someone (Redwing ) told me to get them outside as the 4 boys she had back were happy living outside So they are now outside, fingers crossed they will go to bed tonight Chrissie Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It took a long time for them to go in, a torch, some gentle persuasion and a lot of patience got them in. Hopefully they will have got the hang of it tomorrow night.
