williamspencer98
So they've had the weekend to settle in (we practically let them get on with it without much interaction). Previously, they used to hide under the house (which is raised above the run). This sounds cruel, but we've blocked under the house off with cardboard, so we can handle them without them hiding, so they get used to us, and we can handle them! Definatley, without a doubt Prudence is 'The Female Boss'! Wilhelmina is the inquisitive one, that always wonders who you are, and she is the one that doesn't mind being handled. Mildred is the biggest, but the shy one. Prudence has an odd peck at her, but it's not been a week yet, so they're probably still sorting themselves out. As a treat tonight I've given them mealworms and pellets. I think tomorrow I might feed them some corn in my hand and start to tame them. I love my hens so much! All the best everyone! pixiewish
Fantastic, reading stuff like that really feeds my need for chickens
jaspersmum
Congratulations on your new chickens - fab names - they sound like they're doing really well! We were so surprised at what individual personalities they all seem to have; we've had 10 in total now and they've all been completely different little people in their own right. Some more likeable than others it has to be said. And handful of food (of any description) is guaranteed to make you their best friend - they're bit like dogs and cats in that respect Happy chook keeping. sarahelliott
Congrats on your new ladies, such fun aren't they! Once mine became POL (actually laying) they had complete personality changes and became so much more tame, well most of them that is. i still have a 3 year old who won't let me anywhere near her! It's so lovely that they are all so different though
