cheekymonkey68
Hi All, Does anyone have a dog biscuit recipe ? I said I'd help out a local rescue who I volunteer for but am finding it a challenge to find any good recipes! Any help would be appreciated
Chicken Licken
Here you go - this is from the River Cottage Handbook - I haven't made them yet: 250g wholemeal flour 125g oatmeal 125g Porrige oats 150ml sunflower or rapeseed oil 2 eggs lightly beaten 200g carrots trimmed and fienly grated 2 tsp caraway seeds 2 tbsp finely chopped parsley Preheat the oven to 170C. Sift the flour, add the oats, oatmeal and mix together, Make a well, pour in the oil, followed by beaten eggs, carrots, caraway and parsley.Mix with a wooden spoon until it is a sticky dough. Work the dough on a floured worksurface, knead for a few minutes. Place dough between two sheets of floured greaseproof paper and roll out to about 5mm thick. Cut with a bone shaped cutter if you have one. Bake for about 50 minutes until crisp and golden. Cool on a wire rack. Biscuits will keep for upto 2 months in an airtight container (but not in this house!!!) Good luck with them. The recipe says it makes 24 large bones or 100 small ones. lillybettybabs
You could add a little bit of minced turkey or chicken into that recipe for extra tasty treat.

The Dogmother
I make either sardine or liver treats then freeze and use them as I need: Liver or 2 tins of sardines Gluten free flour (I use spelt or rice) 2 eggs Garlic and mint from NAF Blitz everything but the flour in the liquidiser until it looks like thick soup, add the flour until it thickens and is dough-like. Press into a greased and lined baking tray and bake on a low heat until it is hard and getting tough, turn it over and do the same to the other side until it is like leather... but this time the dogs are beside themselves .... I cut it up with a pizza cutter and freeze in small bags. It's a very high value treat with my lot and they will do almost anything for it. quickcluck
I make them gluten free with rice and oat flour, but I imagine you can use any old flour! 1 Medium sweet potato, cubed, boiled and mashed. Saved the water it's boiled in! Add half a cup of peanut butter Mix in 2 cups of flour and 2 tsp baking powder Mash together use some of the water if you need to. Roll out and bake 20-30 mins, then turn the oven off and leave them in there to dry for 2 hours!
