The Dogmother
Listening the other day to the first cuckoo I have heard in years, I was trying to recall a childhood rhyme about its habits. the only one i can find on t'interweb is the following, but I don't remember it going like that Anyone else got another verse? Cuckoo, cuckoo, what do you do?In April I open my bill; In May I sing all day; In June I change my tune; In July away I fly; In August away I must. Olly
In April come she will; in June, she'll change her tune; In July, away she'll fly is what I can remember

WitchHazel
Aren't there lyrics in a Simon & Garfunkel song like that?? Let me go and Google... Yes, here they are April come she willWhen streams are ripe and swelled with rain; May, she will stay, Resting in my arms again June, she´ll change her tune, In restless walks she´ll prowl the night; July, she will fly And give no warning to her flight. August, die she must, The autumn winds blow chilly and cold; September I´ll remember. A love once new has now grown old. [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/simon+and+garfunkel/april+come+she+will_20124678.html ] Not about a cuckoo, but obviously using some of the lines from the poem you remember. LolaLayla
I remember a very similar one:- The cuckoo comes in April, It sings its song in May, In the middle of June it changes its tune, And in July it flies away.
