My girls love to sleep on the perches in the WIR, we have shades down the side and over the top on that corner. Last week there was an obvious fox attempt  , digging around the edge, shades ripped on WIR and eglu run, fox prints over top of eglu and feathers about where the girls must have panicked.

Should I shut the girls in the eglu for safety each night?

Thinking of electric fence and fox watch any views on effectiveness ?

Any views appreciated

Thanks all :)

Well I think an Electric Fence is probably the best sort of deterrent (as long as you remember to turn it on!) and if you have the space

My personal experience of Foxwatch was that it was totally ineffective (maybe I was plagued by a deaf fox!) but I know others do rate them...

I would save your money on the Foxwatch and concentrate on making it more difficult for the fox to get in an out of your garden if possible....(we wired the bottom of our hedges and that has made a big difference to us)

I think FoxWatches have their place - work great in my inlaws garden where is discourages the foxes fronm stopping in the garden. They still walk through - but no longer take their time and poo and dig all over the place. However, they have no chickens...

However, the temptation of a chicken dinner - and foxes will ignore them.

I would shut them in the eglu overnight but I know I am in the minority on this forum.

It will protect them from the fright of a fox being around, unless the eglu is on the outside when I guess it can jump on top. But also depending on the mesh a fox can reach in and harm one. Over time a weak spot may develop that I haven't noticed. Better safe than sorry :D

im in the minority with you Plum.

the only time i have left them in the run if we have gone away overnight (summer only) - very rare....

I know i am being paraniod but i want to offer the maximum security i can. Ideally i would like to keep the door open but i would i never sleep
