w0lfiesmith
One of our hens has been broody for the past week or so. I've been lifting her out and setting her in front of water, food, and for a dust bath; so she's been eating properly. However, when I went to lift her off today, I noticed a large wound on her front chest, presumably where she'd been pecking herself (i read they do this, to make the eggs warmer)? The area around it has gone green, and I'm guessing this is because the wound got infected and has now gone gangrenous. What do we do? I've looked up a vet to take her to tmrw, but is this something we can deal with at home? Or is it over for her? From what I can ascertain, it would need to be surgically removed; it doesn't really look like this is an option now though. Is survival likely with some antibiotics? Thank you all in advance, James
lillybettybabs
The green skin can be infection or bruising, The best things i can think of until the vets would be to bring her in and thoroughly clean the wound, keep her bedding very clean and make sure she is eating and drinking. Good Luck!
