Leonie56
Hi Does anyone know where to get antibiotics for chickens? My miss pepperpot has been under the weather for some time and I've tried worming and treating for mites.
Tweety
Hi, if you think she may need antibiotics, you will have to take her to see a vet.
lillybettybabs
What are her symptoms?
Leonie56
Shes been having a runny bum since feb/ march being very lethargic. She's a bit unsteady on her feet and her comb is still red but has a greyish tinge. She hasnt laid in over a year and she's nearly 4 years old. She can't jump up or on anything. Very worried about her and can't take her to the vets as where I live the vets know nothing about chickens! Shes still eating and drinking fine. Egluntyne
Did you worm her with Flubenvet?
Leonie56
Yes with marriages pellets with flubenvet in them.
Tweety
She is a good age, which may have something to do with it, but the mucky bum indicates that there is more to it. Herban Liquid Tonic is very good for treating runny poos, so it may be worth trying. I would still take her to the vet tbh - even if they are not chicken experts, they should have enough knowledge to be able to diagnose an infection if that is the problem. If she needs antibiotics, you will have to see a vet anyway.
Egghead68
Avipro and Oregostim can sometimes be helpful for diarrhoea. You could send off a sample to Retfords for analysis too.
Leonie56
What's Retfords?
Egghead68
Retfords Poultry Partnership. They analyse samples from chickens for around £30 I think.
Leonie56
Sad update Mum took her to the vets and they sent her to chicken heaven. She had big growths round her ovaries, they were draining her. Very upset but it's best for her. X
Tweety
Sorry to hear that, but she had a long and, no doubt, very happy life with you. As you say, it was the best thing for her, and she isn't suffering any more.

Chucky Mama
Sorry to hear your news I am glad that you got her along to a vet though. Whilst many vets may not be chicken experts, they can still deal with many issues and prevent further suffering.
