pixiewish
Finally its almost tomorrow. I am collecting my 2 pekins and 1 orpington bantam in the morning, they are 7 weeks old. How much will they be drinking? I mentioned on a previous post that I was worried that the GO drinker was too big for them (therefore risky) and would using grit cups be ok, but now I am worried that I will need to be topping them up to frequently for it to be practical....each cup will only hold about 200ml. i don't want to go out and buy a gravity feeder as DH is keeping me on a tight budget lol. jackian
I have no pekins or orpingtons , just 3 normal sized chickens but mine drink out of 2 fairly small dog bowls...2 so there are no argumants . they will just drink drops at a time tippping their heads back to swallow. If my girls are out FR they will leave their bowls and drink out of the muddiest muckiest puddle they can find as they seem to prefer rain water, I hope that helps. dance in the dark
Well, if you have a couple of cups then that would probably be fine. I currently have a liter. feeder in with my four, four week old chicks and their large fowl orpington mother, and they normally get through about 750mls of water a day at the moment. I would think if you can give them a couple of cups they might be fine, but some birds just drink more, so keep an eye for the first couple of days. Also, if they are basically bigger than the go drinker, and are able to reach into it when the water level goes down, they will probably be alright to use it, or at least will be very soon. As long as they can't get into it and potentially drown.

auntielizzie
I've got one of those hang upside down water bottles like you can use for rabbits. They are really quite cheap and the girls soon worked out to use it and love to peck at the drops. The water stays nice and clean in there as well....
