Donna C
Hi all, have found great home for my last girl and have put my name down for more ex-batts. Don't get them til end of July but wanted to ask other than food what can I give them for that extra boost. There seems to be Iots of things on market but what are the best. Kind regards Donna
LottyJ1
Hiya, I use herban when they need a boost or at times of stress and poulty tonic just as a general supplement - only know about these from on here though! They both work well and they love the herban as it smells of herbs in a rabbit drinking bottle.
sandyhas3chucks
my batties wouldnt touch herban, so my posh girls have been started off on it. Ropadiar is excellent and best value oregano only supplement, wouldn't be without it...
Lavenders_Blue
I use Life-Guard tonic if I am buying el cheapo mash, or if I get ex batts crumbs then I don't supplement with anything as the crumb has everything the hens need in the feed. sandyhas3chucks
oregano supplements have nothing to do with nutritional requirements, it is a health issue. although it has shown in trials to improve shell quality.. amongst other things try googling it.. cd8jbr
I got my ex-batts in October and kept them on the specially formulated crumb/pellets but I had problems with soft eggs and weak shells. I now feed them ordinary layers pellets supplemented with treats/bribes of grapes, sweetcorn and meal worms. What has made a big difference is that once every week I make them a mash from their pellets - and add a dollop of cod liver oil which someone advised as being good for such prolific layers. They love it. The way they go for it you'd think they hadn't eaten for a week so it must taste good for them. Since I started doing that their egg shells are much stronger. Mine spend most of their days free ranging in the garden though and always have a cabbage to pick on in their run.
