shaken and a bit stirred! fox attack update

Recommended Posts

Just recovering from chasing a fox out the garden..whilst my five girls were out free ranging ! Fortunately he was a youngster and so got nothing more than a mouthful of Attie's feathers...but the poor girl is definitely shocked. It ook me sometime to round them up and get them into the safety of the eglu and cube, I had to encourage Attie out from behind the raised bed by the apple tree with a bamboo pole bless her...She hates being handled but fortunately I think her orpie featheryness saved her....no blood that I can see, but I will check her over later when she has roosted, I don't want to stress her anymore than necessary at the moment bless her.... I'm praying she doesn't suffer any problems because of this

Lesson to self...never forget that your girls are not safe...even though you haven't seen a fox in yonks and you only left the kitchen window from where you were watching them for a second..... :shameonu:

Question to self...that screaming banshee woman scared the fox and most of the neighbours and came from nowhere..who she?

Memo to self: slipping and sliding in mud and poo ( :vom: ) does not a fragrant foot make... keep your shoes on when on Chicken duty! Remember also that adrenaline responds well to gin and tonic!

Thanks to whoever looks over my little flock for tonight's happy ending...

Just checked my two big girls who were the target of the attack today. Both huddled together in the nest box (well tbh Lucie was broody before so no surprise to see her in there!). I have had a better look at Attie, and definitely no puncture wounds so a very lucky escape.. Lucie has absolutely no sign of anything wrong..just calm and Brahma like as always. A Zen Chicken if ever there was one! Am cautiously optomistic that provided Attie copes with the shock we have had a very lucky escape tonight......
