sadietoo
Ok..so I know that this may be a bit controversial, but live and let live and all that...is any one else already bored stiff with the Olympics??? Tonight what purported to be the "news" was 15 minutes of Olympic Hype and 10 minutes of news....I am feeling very wearied already and there are still those three long long weeks to get through... So we are trying to come up with a survival plan in our house...fortunately we have a large amount of cynicism to get us through...for example when a commentator makes those ridiculous comments eg " a nation holds its breath" the first person to shout "Claim" wins a point.....also points are won for anything in the news that isn't really news but just a bit more olympic hype.. (I'm quite a few points up tonight already)....bad planning and people covering their derrierres also gets a point... I can honestly say there is one thing I have really enjoyed about the Olympics though.."Twenty twelve "....and how true it is that real life mimics art ...it may be my only bit of sanity in all of this.. welovemarmite
yes i am bored of it too. I became bored of it on 1 January when i saw the first mention of the olympics. i switch off in my head as soon as there is mention, so much so that i dont actually know when it starts, because it may as well have already started with the amount of coverage its getting... yes grumpy old woman here.. Saronne
I'm very bored with the Olympics and hate the hype - it's so artificial. Nations don't compete against each other on a level playing field anyway...rant over..
snowberry
It's more a case of the shocking waste of money that makes me 8000 torches at a cost of £495 each. That comes to £390,0000! I thought a proper relay used one baton during the whole race!
merlina
Not a sport fan Find it utterly tedious, inane and irritating! (that's the polite version ) Have never understood why people want to watch other people playing a game/running etc I shall be hiding in the hen coop for the next fortnight
Cinnamon
Hate all sports,so I won't be watching any of the Olympics, & happily the rest of the family feel the same too. Hopefully the TV won't be too saturated with it............................ I honestly do not give a stuff who wins what,& find the whole thing a shocking waste of money at a time we can ill afford it. I may watch the opening ceremony though & the closing one too,as they both feature acts I like, but that is it.
Olly
I will watch the opening ceremony, and probably a few of the events but not much - I don't watch TV very often anyway. I am an Olympic cynic and have been since we bid for it - I don't think we can afford it, and I don't think London's transport infrastructure can support it. Traffic delays in my area are already occurring due to lane closures, and the Tube was a nightmare yesterday - nothing to do with the Olympics, just the usual problems experienced on an almost daily basis. I dread to think what it would be like if the Tube is suspended and there are 80,000 people trying to get to Stratford/get home. We could have built several new hospitals with this amount of money ...
merlina
arrrrgh! just can't get away from it! Just turned over to BBC1 and there's a message telling me how to get special olympics stuff via the red button. Flicked around channels and it's there every time! I can see that avoiding this is going to be very 'challenging'
Olly
Not if you turn off your TV and go out in the garden! That's what I'll be doing most of the time (weather permitting).
merlina
Not if you turn off your TV and go out in the garden! That's what I'll be doing most of the time (weather permitting). I'm working from home at the mo - and like daytime tv chattering in the background (makes it feel less like work!) Have tried taking marking and laptops into the garden, but find i'm more easily distracted - and if the hens are FR they have quite violent views about students' exams scripts! (entirely justified in some cases )
Geoid
It's more a case of the shocking waste of money that makes me 8000 torches at a cost of £495 each. That comes to £390,0000! I thought a proper relay used one baton during the whole race! Most (nearly all of them) of the torches have been paid for by sponsers. So no cost to the public (except for the security etc that comes with the torch relay)
sadietoo
How are you doing my fellow abstainers? I'm finding it extremely difficult to avoid it all......I tried to listen to Drivetime tonight but there was an olympic onslaught there so I had to switch off...and as I type we are supposedly watching the news... points being scored left right and centre here in my Alternative Olympic Challenge, but no news just olympic reports....I expect people are dying out there somewhere, and I know there was some movement regarding the euro today..but I'm going to have to wait..and wait..and wait... before we get to any real news...it's all getting very Tejus...I would go abroad somewhere far far away if I could..... Edited to add...more than 15 minutes into the news we learn that Kofi Annan has resigned!!!!! since when is that not headline news.... grrrrrr! Cinnamon
I had to suffer the Judo while at the dentists yesterday. Having a scale & polish while an excited man is jumping up & down is no fun,I can tell you Its all over work too - can't even get a quiet coffee without it blaring away in the staff room.
