auntielizzie
Yesterday I bought the girls a new toy - a chicken feeding ball Essentially it is like one of those kong things you buy for cats and dogs; you fill it with treats and the idea is that they roll it around and the treats fall out of the holes. So far of course it has been ignored An unnecessary expense I know, but I thought it might give them something to do when they are shut up during the day while I am at work. I have been on leave from work all week and the weather has been wonderful - the girls have been out FR all week, so it has been lovely. I think next week will be a bit of a shock for them when they are back in the run during the day time but at least they will have something new to play with
Luvachicken
Once they figure out that food comes from it if they move it they will soon start having fun with it. Mine still haven't gone up the lovely ladder we made them yet
scubababe
Mine have one of them balls to. Filled it with mealworm and they fought over it!! Watch out the England squad...my girlies are in training
mimi5
My pekins have one of these and I put a little corn in it for them on my work days, when they have to be in their run all day. They go mad for it!!!! Molly my gold partridge is an expert now.....but they were highly suspicious of it at first!!! Give it a few days and then sit back and enjoy!! auntielizzie
I am very impressed at how quickly the girls took to their new food ball - they soon worked out how it worked and now they are moving it around like pros The treats don't last long though
TooLilac
I'm sure they'll get there - eventually... I bought a couple of these last winter when it was dark before & after work, so my chickens weren't getting to FR at all during the week (my guilt was terrible!) Of course, they ignored it. FInally my two legbars worked it out but the (less clever) Blackrocks never twigged. The legbars are manic with the ball - and the Blackrocks have never cottoned onto their secretive corn consumption
