Luvachicken
Heidi, my wyandotte chick - almost 17 weeks old, has suddenly got bad diarrhoea. Her fluffy knickers are filthy. She seems well in her self and is eating and drinking. The other 2 chicks are fine . They have had the run of the wooden run for a week, with the older 2 chickens shut in the cube run. I sprinkled Stalosan all around before I let the chicks out into there and all seemed fine. They have only had their food to eat and no treats at all so am not sure what has given her tummy ache. I am going to give Heidi a bath in a minute but what else should I do ? I have not put the tonic in their water today just in case it was that - but I don't think so. Any advice much appreciated xx
Luvachicken
Well, I took Heidi to the vets this afternoon as she didn't look so well after all. She looked her all over and mentioned the dreaded coxoid, Mareks's and something else I think began with B. She washed Heidi's feathers and was surprised how much poop kept coming out. She said she should be separated from the others and gave her some Baytril and some probiotic stuff, but she didn't really say what she has. She did say she should start feeling better in the next 24-48 hrs. I have put the coxoid medicine in all of the chick's water as she suggested and hope that none of the other chicks catch anything. Everything was going so well too
Tweety
Sorry to hear about your poorly chick. I think you did the right thing taking her to the vet, and I hope that she will recover very soon.
Luvachicken
Thanks Tweety, she is still here today but looks much the same. I have given her the antibiotics this morning and been giving her hourly top ups of the probiotic stuff. She has eaten some layers pellets mixed up with water and I guess is making a little progress. I have also been washing her bottom and covering it in vaseline - poor thing - every hour too. Thank goodness for summer holidays.
