johnandkymberley
Hi all, I've got a feeling one of my hens has got Mareks. I'm making her some medicine with hypericum and hoping for the best. However I've read that once the tumours are formed then the only thing to do is have them pts. How do I know when the tumours have formed? Is there a time scale? Her walking has got worse since we first spotted it. She makes a lot of noise when she walks, however she is a realllllllyyyyy dramatic hen, if another girl walks past her you should hear the noise she makes! So making noise isn't really out of character for her. Her wings are okay she uses them a lot to help her walk along She's eating, drinking and laying. She is a very tame hen anyway and is still responsive to my cooing!!! I really don't want her put down, she is such a beautiful hen and she was my Xmas pressie Has anyone got any ideas/suggestions or comments about the disease or any advice on what I should do? What would you do in my situation? J&K
Olly
I think you should see a vet as soon as possible. I haven't had experience of a hen with this, but I understand the outlook is very poor - you really need veterinary advice though, as it may not be this at all. Walking problems can have all sorts of causes from a simple sprain to a neurological problem. I would isolate her from the rest of the flock while you find out. Egluntyne
She needs to see a vet if you think she has Marek's.
