I popped round to see a poorly hybrid belonging to a friend earlier and got to have a look at their Omlet WIR. Was actually impressed with it, much sturdier than I expected it to be - the door locks could maybe do with fox proofing 'cos are easy to push across, they use tent pegs to secure theirs.

 

I wondered what the long metal pipe-frame things either side of the door frame were.

Asked what they were for and she didn't know either

I've wondered what they are too! They don't seem to have a purpose other than to fill with bedding that you can't sweep out They also stop you from hanging the door the other way so that it opens inwards which would be handy. I agree about the locks, they could do with a redesign. It's a pain having four, I guess they think a fox couldn't open both on the bottom door, so maybe something a little more substantial and only one on each panel would be good

 

Saying that, I do love my run and have just ordered a second one and 2 extensions to replace my wooden one!

I assumed they were just for strengthening the door frame.

 

I wouldn't have any problem with a fox opening my door - the bolts have delaminated and rusted - quite stiff to open!

I think they are for strengthening the door frame too. Had my run up for two weeks now and must say I am really pleased with the quality and strength of it.
