Hi All,

 

I bought some 3 week old chicks in April and ended up with a cockerel. Have tried my best to hold on to him, but I live in North London and he's just getting too loud

 

Does anybody know of a rescue center or farm which would take a cockerel? In the London/Hertfordshire area?

Sorry don't know of anywhere, but I had 4 cockerels to re-home this summer from my first hatch!!! I used preloved and also posted ads at my local feed suppliers and vets. I was thankfully able to re-home them all!!! Hope you are sucessful!!!

Just a word of warning:

Our local rescue centre says that cockfighting is on the rise and many of the cockerels used for 'training' come from 'free to good home' ads.

They're currently worried and debating issuing a statement that it's kinder to cull than release a cock to an uncertain future (but as you can imagine, a welfare centre asking people to cull is controversial, so my guess is that this won't happen)

There's a place near Stevenage where they have loads of chickens there who all free range and I know they have at least 1 cockeral because he regularly attacks my daughter when she collects the eggs!! Address sent by PM

I used preloved, omlet and local contacts. Re-homed one of two but had no luck with the other in 2 months. We're having chicken for dinner tomorrow !! Black meat is supposed to be a delicacy isn't it
