mimi5
Hi all, Need some advice re-worming. I have had all my pekins together now for the last 2 weeks, in the cube with 4 metre run. Intros have been ok-ish and the adults (my cockerel and the 2 mums) have been moulting. My plan was to worm them all at the beginning of nov, giving the adults time to finish their moult and for any intro stress to have died down! But Penny one of my chicks (now 25wks old) has watery poos and seems a bit off. Have made up the flubenvent (luckily I had a pot already!!) So going to begin tomorrow. I think the adults are winding up their moult and the 3 babies haven't been wormed yet as I thought it best to worm them all together! Good idea???? The Dogmother
Watery poos can be a sign of worms so I'd worm any way if they all seem to be in good health.
mimi5
Thanks Dogmother, I did go ahead and worm them and tomorrow is the last day!! Horray they are very grumpy!! They don't like the pellets so I make them in to mash with water and they also really miss toddling around in the garden!! Good news no more runny poos!! Or suspicious red bits in the poos!! Quick question, should I re-treat in 3 weeks? Thanks
Egluntyne
There is no need if the 1st treatment appears to have done the trick. an otherwise healthy flock shouldn't need worming more than every 3-4 months.
hobbit
Hi, I posted yesterday saying one of my girls had diaorrhoea, but think watery poo is actually what she has. seems a bit brighter today but her comb has gone floppy. Do ypu think I should worm them? I never did as i phoned my vet when I first got the girls & she suggested they wouldn't need it as going on ground which has never had chickens on before? She's my sons chicken & he would be devastated if anytying happened to her, he's only 2! Thanks!
Egluntyne
Sounds as if your vet needs to brush up on the mode of transfer and the life cycle of the intestinal worms which affect chickens. In answer to your question, yes I would worm them.
hobbit
Thanks, wish i had trusted my instints & wormed them earlier, but i took the vets advice.they didn't have any in stock so have to wait until Monday (when I phoned this morning they said come collect it this afternoon, when I turned up it was out of stock!) Thanks for advice. sorry for gatecrashing your thread, glad you chickens are better!
