Shirl
I bought some 2 day old chicks on Saturday and it looks like i'm losing them to coccidiosis. These were meant to be meat birds so can't treat with medication even if I could get it in time. Their chick crumb has Eimericox in it and I used this with the chicks I hatched myself previously. Is there anything I can do bar ask the OH to cull them all? They were bought in by the person I bought them off so they were hatched Thursday, transported Friday and then transported by me again 24 hours or so later. They are being raised exactly as I did the ones I hatched myself. I'm not sure what else I could have done. I feel awful as though I have killed them with my own hands. Shirl
They are now all dead. The final 2 despatched by OH when it was clear they were too ill to recover. I think it's the last time I buy chicks in. 60 hours from buying them they're all dead.
chucknette
So sorry to hear that Shirley. I bought four chicks in and they showed signs of cocci of which the vet confirmed. I lost two of them but managed to pull the other two through. Like yourself I felt as if I had killed them but you and i would have done everything possible to help them survive. I too will think twice about buying chicks in again, although the breeder did everything she could to help me. It was an expensive mistake on my part. Egluntyne
That is such a shame. I'd let the seller know.
