Apple cider vinegar in metal drinkers

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I read not to put apple cider vinegar into metal drinkers. What is the reason for this ?

For the moment I can give them it in those gally cups, but when it starts to get cold and frosty, I would need to put it on the water heater thing which of course has the metal drinker on it. What's the best solution ?

Thanks x

Hi,

I think the vinegar would begin to corrode the metal somewhat. Reminds me of my Mom, who used to cook rhubarb in an aluminium pan. She always commented on how clean the pan was afterwards

Can you not put a plastic drinker on your water heater thingy. I've just bought one for this year, and my drinkers are plastic. I assume the water won't get hot enough to affect plastic, or it would be too hot for the hens to drink!
