I'm usually more of an omlet forum lurker  but I just had to post - I'm so angry and upset!

Two months ago I bought a very expensive run from Averies4U. I also specially got it with a solid roof and guttering to keep my precious girls dry.

Soon after the run was installed, I noticed a small leak. I didn't want to bother Lewis, so I asked my husband to have a look and see if he could fix it. Unfortunately however the leak got progressively worse and my husband said I need to contact them. So I emailed Lewis and explained that it leaked a tiny bit initially, but has got worse and worse and now I need buckets to stop the larger drips, and my 10 bags of aubiose bedding is completely wet through.

I just got a reply from Lewis saying that I should have contacted him immediately and now, 2 months on, the run is "no longer [his] responsibility".

I am so upset and don't know how I'm going to tell my husband! I assumed that Lewis would take pride in his work and his reputation and if, after only two months, one of his runs is clearly faulty, I assumed he would want to fix it.

Now I have to tell my husband that the very expensive run I finally talked him into needs repairing! And I have no idea how to fix a roof that leaks everywhere! Can anybody help? Has anyone else had problems with leaking roofs? :(

(added 11/1/13) NOTE: If you are considering a run from Averies4U, please read my update below about how Lewis really came through in the end.

Oh I'm sorry for you, but haven't any experience of WIR. I have the cube with 2 extra extensions and have been very pleased with it, but you should see how many different covers I have on it to try and keep the run dry!!!!!!!!How frustrating for you!!! I bought a wooden coop and run first and really regretted it and then made the massive decision to write it off and invest in the cube and run....my hubby nearly had a heart attack over the cost!!!(put it on plastic and paid it off in 6 months!!)

Maybe try contacting trading standards. When I've had a few difficult situations with goods that are faulty etc I have always found them very helpful and usually just the mention of getting them involved gets the problem sorted!!!!!

Let us know how you get on?

I have an Aviaries4U run too (but pre-Lewis). Can you see what's causing it to leak? If it's a solid roof (what's it made of?) it shouldn't be leaking. Could you explain to Lewis, just as you have done to us and ask for his advice (softly softly catchee monkey  ).

I caused my corrugated plastic roof to leak (by s"Ooops, word censored!"ing snow off with a rake - with hindsight a very stupid thing to do  ) so I had to lay another layer of corrugated plastic on top which has totally fixed the leaks.

I agree with ANH, I would contact him again and politely say that you thought he would care more about his reputation, i am sure a lot of his work comes from forum members and eglu owners so i doubt he would want negative comments posted on the forum. I have an aviaries 4 u WIR and have recommended them on here many times but I will watch this thread carefully and would think twice about recommending them again if they don't put your WIR right. I hope it gets sorted soon. :)

well I just wanted to update everyone...

Lewis really came through in the end

He's here at the moment (and has been here for hours!!) adding additional supports (so the roof doesn't dip in places) and adding an additional layer of roofing over the existing one. The additional layer of roofing alone comes to £200, so we agreed to split the cost, which I think is fair.

Despite the difficult start, I am very impressed and I personally would have no problem recommending Lewis and Averies4U to others :D
