At last..........Omlet WIR finally put together!!!

Recommended Posts

I posted on here in great excitement in early January that I had ordered an Omlet WIR, taking advantage of the sale price :D . It arrived in good time and I looked forward to having it put up and the chickens installed within a week or two. But then came the rain :( and it was another two weeks before it was even dry enough to get all the pieces out of the boxes and check them! I got as far as putting the bottom layer together and then had to abandon once more due to the snow.

I managed to get the second layer attached and then got to the frame and the bit with all the screws etc. I must confess to getting a bit confused and frustrated  . OH wouldn't help me as he said it was too wet and cold and yet more rain and snow did follow :wall:

Finally, today, after a couple of drier weeks, I could bear it no longer and went out and did battle with the remaining bits of the WIR, despite the freezing temperatures. OH gave in and came and helped me so the WIR is now complete apart from adding the Eglu! Although it was tricky in places, I'm really pleased with the finished run. We have a very small garden and the Omlet run seems to blend in more than a wooden one would - plus, hopefully, maintenance free which is good as I'm not a natural DIY person!

So, next weekend - weather permitting :anxious: - I just have to add the eglu, fill the WIR with the woodchip that's been waiting to go in there and the girls will finally be able to move into their permanent site. I never thought it would take almost two months from ordering to having it ready. Can't wait till next weekend though. Will take lots of photos when it's finished and post them on here. Might just need to go shopping for things to complete the new set up too

Oh well done you :dance: The weather has just been awful!!!! :( All the rain drove me to site my cube and run and fill it with woodchip!!! It has been great, especially with all the snow!!! But I hope your chickens don't freakout at the change of floor surface....mine were decidedly grumpy about the woodchip :lol:

Cheeky Chooky, I'm in awe of your OH putting your latest one together on Christmas Day!! Wish mine had been that quick  .

Superkitty, your Pleasuredome sounds great (and I'd love to see photos too :) but the thought of adding any extensions isn't very appealing at the moment. I guess that will all change though once I see them in there and imagine yet more space for them (or more chickens?!!! ).

Mimi 5, I'll let you know how they react to the woodchip next weekend. When they are free ranging they seem to have a preference for any patch of mud or compost in an empty plant pot that they can find.

He's a treasure...he put up our little Summer House on New Year's Day as well! It helps that he's become a bit of an Omlet WIR expert so he didn't see it as any bother

Trust us (Superkitty and me  ) ...you'll soon be planning an extension

Finally, the girls are in the WIR!! Took me all weekend - digging out yesterday to provide a place for the Eglu and finishing the WIR and outdoor run today. Sadly, it took me so long my youngest was the only one on photo duty so not a great shot. More to come..................

OMG - one day and I'm can't believe how brilliant a WIR is. Love being in amongst my girls. Stood outside earlier whilst the boldest, Dorothy, flew up to the highest perch I have so far put in and talked to me about her views!!

The best bit of my day was when my OH (staunchly anti-chicken!) came out for an admiring view and said "so are you getting any more then? How many bantams can you get in that classic?" I hadn't thought about getting any more but it's like I've been given permission to think about "morehens"!!:lol:
