merlina
Poor Ena finally succumbed last week So I'm left with just one hen. I'm guessing poor Edna needs a friend or two. The place I bought them from isn't answering their phone and I'm not sure I fancy trying to buy one at Melton market - so does anyone know of any nice sellers in the Melton area? Failing that, I guess I'll go to Mini Meadows. Any suggestions for what breeds might get on with Edna? She's a bossy warren (ginger ranger in Omlet speak). I was thinking the wynadottes looked very pretty.... (realistically, I sometimes work very long hours, so something that's reasonably hardy and will be OK sometimes being stuck in a smallish run would be good)
Chortle Chook
I'd just go to Mini Meadows with an open mind and see what takes your fancy, providing they are the same size as Edna. I'm sure the people at Mini Meadows will be able to give you lots of advice. I would, however, get 2, rather than just one, so that you don't end up in the same situation of just having the one, too soon. I think the balance should work out well that way too as Edna will be on home territory but the newbies will be a pair. Do let us know what you end up with. Purplemaniacs
Sorry to hear about Ena. I agree with Shabby Chic I would get two rather than one. Have you thought about http://www.merrydalepoultry.co.uk/hybrids_for_sale.htm We got our second and third lot of girls from them a couple of years ago, the sale side is now run by a new lady but when I went last year to buy an incubator the hen area all looked the same as it had done when Karen ran it.
