patsylabrador
I've never made jam, it looks like just the sort of thing I'd mess up but I'm intrigued by the jam making instructions in the bread machine booklet. It looks so easy. Has anyone done it, what did you think? Any good for a willing but slightly incompetent cook? By the way, I love my bread machine and my rice cooker. Two brilliant additions to my kitchen.
Lavenders_Blue
I have a bread machine but have never been tempted to use the jam setting on it as I find it easy to make by hand - and I am very much a 'make it up as you go along' cook, so if I can get jam right I reckon most people can As long as you watch it like a hawk when it's boiling and keep testing for the setting point (a thick gloomy drip on your wooden spoon and a decent wrinkle when you drop a bit onto a cold saucer) you can't really go far wrong (famous last words?). Luvachicken
I once made blackberry jam in the bread machine. It turned out very nice but did make a splatty mess in the pan and machine, and if it boils over it makes even more of a mess. I treated myself to a Tefal jam maker instead, but haven't really used it because I couldn't find enough fruit in our last horrible summer. patsylabrador
I made some strawberry jam in the breadmaker - delicious but slightly too runny. I think I will have a go at doing it in a pan as I have the kit now. I might as well. I told OH that such a thing as a jam-making machine exists but he didn't look impressed. Luvachicken
I got my jam maker on offer from Lakeland, but now the price is over £
freddie
I use a copper based pan, the bigger the better(avoids splatter), a wooden spoon kept just for jam(not the onion flavour on the rest of them:)), and that's it. I make lots of jam. I do find that 2lb fruit, and the sugar necessary to go with it, is enough in one batch for my electric stove; any bigger quantity, and it cant really get a rolling boil sustained.,I prefer too make 3 lots of it, than one big lot, as I get a better finish.
