As you know we have always struggled a bit with YS. Hes in yr 7 and having a few problems with being left out. Hes a bit of a clown and is immature. Hes a young yr 7 (April) and second child. We monitor him on Facebook for dangers and he appears to make wisecracks and then "likes" what hes written. My OH says hes a bit like one of the Big bang theory guys. Not a geek as in swotty just strange. ES who is in 6th form says he hangs out with "weirdos" - him being super cool - anything not cool is weird. Any mums of weird 11 yr old boys out there and any that have older sons who have outgrown weird and their sons are normal humans please give me hope. Sadly I was the class clown so it runs in the family - i dont think I am weird - but you may not agree

As you know already with having an older son, Yr 7 is quite a big change for them. He is probably trying to 'find himself'. He'll probably do mad things, and then slowly find a friend like minded friends and they'll all be mad together, but also be able to temper each others madness so as not to scare girls away (not sure when this happens as my DS is in Yr 9 and doesn't appear to be interested in them, yet). I was worried with my DS in Yr7 as he seemed to not have many friends, but slowly he has made a few good ones. How would he take it if you said people find it a bit odd if you like your own posts?

Thanks Bluekarin - he would probably get a major hump. Hes at the stage of being rude to girls - hes got a couple of female friends who at present find him amusing but for how long. He seems down on females in general esp me! Hopefully it will pass.

Don't fret. I have three sons, none of them gave a hoot about being cool when they were kids and they have turned out to be pretty standard blokes. I think boys are generally weird tbh.

Thanks Patsy that is reassuring. I think they grow up much too early these days and 40 yrs ago he wouldnt be classed as odd. They were still running around being boyish and enjoying life. Some of his mates have suddenly matured and I think this is down to having too because of marital break ups and one has his own demons, but my little un has been left behind. He will mature but at his own rate. He is challenging to say the least and seems to vent his fury at me rather than dad. i just wanted reassurance from mums who have been there on a site where no one knows me and if they judge me so what - better than friends doing it. My youngest stepson has some issues at the beginning of the year that seem to be sorted now but he does

do and say things that are a little quirky.

I was an odd child and had a obsession with animal skeletons so i don't worry but his dad can't understand.

So do I Lilly, someone described me as eccentric. I have seen eccentric I dont think I am. If ecccentric is keeping chickens. liking gardening and cooking then 90% of people on here are eccentric. I like eccentric. I would rather be this (if I am ) than like the rest of the 10% .I want my son to grow up in his own time.

Worry not, my son had a tough yr7 and is very much his own person, he is in 6th form now and has found his niche. I have always encouraged my children to be true to themselves, it pays of in the long run. Just love and support him and he will find his spot in life.
