Omlet cube and run

My original Omlet Glug is dying. I have a bigger Glug with nipples but not all of my chickens will use it.

 

Before I order a replacement Glug, does anyone have any alternative recommendations?

 

Issues I've had with the Glug are:

 

- someone keeps washing their feet in it

- the Pekins struggle to reach the water if it is not completely full

- I'd prefer it to hold more water, for peace of mind if we are away for a night

I just use green and white gravity drinkers, suspended from the run roof by an unbent wire coat hanger - works a treat and no foot washing either!

Can the Cube run cope with that sort of weight, if it is attached near a supporting arch?

Yes, I just make sure that the hook goes diagonally across where the wires cross on the run mesh. and near an arch as you say.

I looked at drinkers in MVF - they had a really nice robust looking hanging drinker that held 4 litres, but the base of it was huuuuge - more than a foot across , so it would have taken up loads of run space. I think I need to keep looking - or are they all quite big?

Mine, pictured above, has a base about 8" in diameter.

That sounds more reasonable - I'll try and find one the same. It's green too, which is obviously a bonus!

I have two and rotate them through the dishwasher each week - I just put load on with all the dog, cat and chicken things, bung in some disinfectant and let it do it's job.

I've tried pretty much every drinker out there but the 3 litre version of these is by far my favourite, they are more stable as they are longer, the base is probably about 7 inches across I guess. I only buy them from Regency as I cant seem to get the same quality ones elsewhere - I am very fussy

The Regency ones look great, as is the price, but they're not green!

 

However, I've seen that the BHWT online shop have green ones the same as the Dogmother's, even if they are a bit more expensive, I think I'll get one there

Did you get a hat for your feeder? Essential to keep moisture out and stop the birds from perching on the top and pooing in it.

Yes I did, or rather I already had one that fitted, from a smaller feeder I had when the Pekins were chicks.

I forgot to say - the first time I filled it I obviously hadn't fixed the base on properly. The giveaway was extremely wet feet I was a bit more careful on the second attempt.

For some reason the hens don't like the water in it much, but it does stay clean better than other things I've tried. It's big and heavy and doesn't get knocked over and lasts very well - great for weekends away

 

I also have a back-up bottle (like those for rabbits). My last group didn't like that much either, but my new araucana absolutely loves it

I have an Eltex like this one.

 

I really like those - I think they are the nicest, but I wanted to be able to put apple cider vinegar in the water, so had to get plastic.

That's why I went for plastic, also, my lot don't like drinking out of a galvanised drinker - must be the taste or something... can't understand it as they are more than happy to drink from muddy puddles and drain covers

My dogs don't like drinking out of stainless steel bowls either - they have ceramic now for that reason.

My hounds are fine with steel bowls, but a friend's dog doesn't like the sound its tags make on a metal bowl.
