Introducing bantam Orpintons to hybrids

Recommended Posts

I have just got 4 beautiful bantam Orpingtons. I have put them in a Go with a run inside a large WIR so that they can be seen by my two hybrids but not mix yet.

I did this before when introducing hybrids to hybrids and I kept them separated for 2 weeks before mixing them together. This worked well. But should I leave a longer interval between the bantam Orps and the hybrids as the bantams are much smaller and probably more timid?

Has anyone actually done this or can anyone advise please.

I've done it the other way around, I have a LF Orpington (and other hybrids) and have introduced Pekin Bantams.

I think your previous approach will work fine this time around.

As others have reported, Bantams can be quite feisty (mine are ), and that being the case, will easily hold their own against a larger bird. Mind you, it's worth noting that two of my five Bantams are cockerels, which I think helps introductions, due to the fact that they see it as their job to keep good order in the flock.

Let us know how you get on, I have 13 orp bantam eggs in an incubator right now due to hatch in two weeks if everything goes well. All different colours so very excited. I love Orpington bantams.
