When you are sowing a new lawn on clay soil, do you rotavate FIRST and then put down sharp sand - or vice versa? Any other tips about sowing a lawn would be most welcome too. Charlottechicken Posted May 5, 2013 Share Posted May 5, 2013 Sorry but I agree with you, buy turf! I have sown a lawn and turfed, and would never bother with sowing again. The birds ate a lot of it too. OH found a great independent garden centre which sells beautiful turf for £2.99 a square metre, and I laid it myself, which was just like laying carpet.
