I feel terrible and a bit sick, OH and I were trimming one of our girls nails as she is.t very active anymore but she wiggled and I cut one of her nails too short, it bled quite a bit but I wrapped it in tissue until it stopped and then painther nails with the purple spray, will she be ok, I can't believe I caught her like that, Ivan abad chicken mummy, is there anything else I should do?

There is seldom any need to cut a hens claws, so I'd leave well alone. I'd keep an eye on it for a few days, for further bleeding or signs of infection.

 

If it bleeds again, soap or cornflour should stop it.

Try not to worry, as a new chicken mummy I trimmed a claw that grows around in a circle, it bled like mad, I think it was Egluntyne who recommended the soap so I sent hubby out and it did the trick. I kept her in overnight and she was right as rain in the morning. The claw still grows in a circle but until it reaches skin I am leaving well alone! Hopefully your girl will be fine as well. Another vote for soap! Rub quite hard on to bleeding nail and it blocks it up.

 

However I don't trim my hens nails but we do something have to trim rescue hen nails from cages.
