mcfee2
I'm a little concerned that my supposedly 15 week old are not... Daisy is more likely close to 11weeks, Phlox is about right, but Coriander is exhibiting significantly red comb and wattles - almost the same red as the eglu, and as the big girls' combs and is the same size as the hybrids, much much bigger than the other two. If she starts laying, can I keep her on growers until the others are bigger or needs she go on to layers immediately? I don't want to move her into the cube on her own, but I don't know how to make sure they all eat the right food if I put the little girls in with the big ones at the same time! Confused!!! Purplemaniacs
I don't think there is any problem with keeping the older one on growers. Chrissie
PoachedPlease
Mine were all on layers when I got them from the breeder, even Though they didn't lay for another 7 weeks! I realise now after a year of serious chicken analysis that hybrid birds are pretty damn hardy. As scavengers they eat pretty much anything and so a few extra weeks of calcium won't do any damage. They crunch on snail shells readily enough Xx
Purplemaniacs
Giving layers pellets or mash to younger chickens before they are POL is not a good idea much better to keep them all on growers. I kept my bantams on growers until they almost a year old. Chrissie
The Dogmother
I'd keep them all on growers until they are all laying.
