Purplemaniacs
I am just thinking about next year I have been good this year and not got any new girls. I have fallen in love with the Polands after reading Sonyascott's post about her Polish Bantams. I have some mini Sikies and just wondered if they would be ok with Poland Bantams. I have read that they are often kept seperate to big girls, or do they need to be on their own? I think Polish Bantams and Poland are the same, is this correct? Thanks Chrissie
Chortle Chook
I think you can get standard sized Polands (i.e. big ones) but most for sale are about the same size as a Silkie (given that these are normally in-betweenies too). I have both Silkies and Polands (3 of each) and can say that they make excellent companions. They are both gentle beings and both have head gear that rather limits their sight so they need very similar care.

newcountrygirl
I have two Polish Frizzle bantams - they are the most gentle girls. They used to be in with my Wyandottes and Pekins but now they have a little house of their own. I would recommend them to anyone - they are lovely. The only problem can be with their headgear which depending on what kind of water container you have they dip their heads in and get their topknots wet then peck the ground and end up with mud balls which are a devil to get off. I have to give Chicken Little a wash and blow dry on more than one occasion but since changing to a hanging water container this has stopped. I have to say that she seemed to love her blow dry! Chortle Chook
I dry both my Silkies and my Polands' heads with the hair drier (on a low setting) and as you say, they both seem to love it. They just sit on my lap, obligingly turning their wee heads this way and that. (All they need is a magazine and then they'd be just like me at the hair dressers - )
Chickabee
Hi, it's me. I'm already in love with my Polish. I have a silkie too, had her from about 3 weeks, kept her indoors in a dog cage, in the lounge She is wonderful and gets along with all the chickens. She had a quail friend, who unfortunately we lost to Mr Fox. She's extremely broody, which I don't mind, but would put some off. When we do get eggs they are delicious. My older chooks don't get on with the young Poland , so I put her out with my rabbit. That worked really well. Have to keep her in her own cage in our walk in run at night, as big chooks hate her at the mo. ,
