AlisonH
My chooks haven't laid now for a few weeks and someone mentioned that out of date food could be the issue. I know there's loads of other things that might have stopped them but I have ruled most of them out. BUT thinking about it we bought food from a different supplier some while ago and I commented at the time about it not having a very long use by date on. I've since thrown away the bag so have no way of checking. Anyone know if this could stop them laying? How serious is giving them out of date food (I'm talking a month or so, not years) and if so will they resume laying if I buy new?? Any comments gratefully received. Purplemaniacs
If it is only slightly out of date I would think it would be ok, but I am only guessing. My only other thought is have you wormed them recently with something like Flubenvet? Worms would cause a drop in the number of eggs. Adams Egg
It's not likely if its only just out, more likely to be another cause, had a similar problem and found some red mite, not huge numbers but enough clearly to cause a drop off. I thought my cleaning would have been enough to prevent them, but not so
