Eggasperated
I decided to oil my slate hearth today round the wood burner. I bought some Hotspot slate oil from a local shop for £6.99 for 100ml and it seems to have worked ok, however looking on-line I see Stovax make a slate dressing which is about £7.50 for 500ml; I'm a bit confused as to why the one I bought was 5 times dearer, they didn't have the Stovax one in the shop so I didn't know about it until I got home. I don't think I was conned as the Hotspot one is the same price on line. Can anyone enlighten me as to what is the difference

purple hen
The man who installed ours recommended baby oil, which seems to work well and is very cheap.
Eggasperated
Hmm interesting. Think I favour the baby oil over the WD40 just because of the smell.
ali-s
The man who installed our wood burner recommended Olive oil. I bought a cheap bottle from Aldi. Just a few drops needed and an old cleaning cloth to spread it about.
