Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I have a WIR with a dirt floor. It has been built for 2 and a half years and I usually use Stalosan F sprinkled around the run every month or so to keep it clean.

 

Should I remove a couple of inches of earth and replace it with new fresh dirt or can I continue as I have with the Stalosan? Or is there a disinfectant I can mix with water and use a watering can to sprinkle over the earth to kill any bacteria/worm eggs/parasites etc? I have had a look on many poultry websites but am now completely confused as to which is best!

 

I am down to 2 girls out of 5 now, I want to make sure any new ones added (hopefully BHWT girls!) will be safe from any buglies and also to keep the current two from getting ill from old soil.

I have a similar setup. Every few months I shovel out the top layer of old Easibed along with some of the soil and put it in the compost bin. I then put Stalosan F down, very liberally, then a new layer of Easibed. Stalosan does kill all those things you mention so that should be all you need to do.

I'd just continue with the Stalosan or Ground Sanitising Powder, either that or slab under the run if you can.

That's exactly what Stalosan is intended for, so there's no reason to change what you do. However if you really want to wash the ground down with a liquid disinfectant, then Virkon is probably your best bet.
