paulad
Hi all, Havent been on here for a few weeks but lots has happened. We managed to get a massive WIR from freecycle - we have cleaned it all up, painted it and its now in place. Back breaking but it was totally Free so Im not complaining. So our 2 chucks had lots more room. On Saturday we picked up 4 ex bats (to fill the space in the WIR !!) One of them was really quite poorly when we got her home so Sunday teatime we rang the BHWT and they said we should take her back and they would see what happened. They rang last night and said she was doing ok but the stress was probably too much for her - we agreed that she would stay with them as we now have a very rowdy bunch ! and they are going to rehome her with someone that has 2 blind hens and so will be much calmer for her. Anyway we now have 3 new ex-bats - Dora, Dotty and Daisy....They seem to be settling well but Im really not looking forward to the intros with old original 2 - i can see WW3 ahead !! Plum
Just give them time to face up through the wire first and don't rush things and you'll get there. Well done rescuing them

paulad
thanks all - we did a mini get together of all 5 girls last night - wasnt nice but we figured if we do this every day it will get better. the 2 originals are in a coop within the WIR so they can see the newbies all day long. And the newbies have all the space. Hoping to let them spend more time together at the weekend but we are just gonna take it slow. These ex bats are fearless though !!! Think its our originals we need to worry about !!
gavclojak
ha-ha I think they have to be fearless to get through the trauma that is commercial egg production.....my ladies are the same, nothing fazes them apart from the odd squirrel:)
