nin-chicken
I went to shut my girls in this evening and noticed that one had blood on her comb and head. I brought her into the kitchen and bathed it in warm water which helped a great deal, though she didn't like it much! It looked like she had a little cut on her comb which had then bled and left dried up blood on her head so it looked worse than it was. I then noticed some blood on one of her toes/claws but when I bathed that there was no injury, the blood must have come from her comb. I can't see blood on any of my other three so I don't think one of them has done it (please please I hope not ) so I'm wondering if she scratched her comb with her toe a bit too vigorously and caught it? Or whether she may have cut her comb on something else then because it was irritating her, she scratched it with her toe and made it worse?? I couldn't see that well in the dark but I don't think there are any sharp objects in the run which makes me think she's done it with her toe.... Do you think that's possible? I will of course keep a close eye on her tomorrow and check out the run properly. Any advice greatfully received xx
Patricia W
She probably did scratch it. Combs do bleed a lot. If you have some purple spray, put some on and just keep an eye on her. The others are attracted by blood so spraying it purple stops them pecking at it.
nin-chicken
Thanks for the reply. She's absolutely fine today, no blood and no sign of distress or bullying. I've ordered some purple spray in case I need it in the future. Thanks again

AlisonH
One of mine once caught her comb on the omelet feeder as she pulled her head out. They do bleed loads. I bought some really good antiseptic spray stuff and, touchwood, haven't had to use it since.
nin-chicken
Yes, it could've been that too. Was it antiseptic spray specially for birds/animals or just human stuff?
Eggasperated
I've used veterinary wound powder before on a bleeding comb this one or I believe Johnsons make one as well. Bit messy getting it on but it seemed to work.
AlisonH
Yes, it could've been that too. Was it antiseptic spray specially for birds/animals or just human stuff? It's called hypocare, I got it from our local animal supplies shop and it was quite pricey £ 9.99but claims to be used for antibacterial, anti viral and anti fungal. The man in there said that it had been trialled by thE NHS and was found to be brilliant but was too expensive for the NHS to use! I wish I'd had it when I used to have a cat and she was forever at the vets with infected bites from other cats, would have saved me a fortune!
