Deformed neck, maybe crook neck?

Recommended Posts

Or maybe not, as I'm not sure exactly what it looks like. We've had a new Buff Orpington for 4 weeks & every now & then she tilts her head backwards until it's almost resting on her back. It seemed at first to be some sort of stress related symptom or nervous condition. Today we examined her neck more closely & it feels like there's a lump, which we thought might be a growth but on reflection seems more like a deformity. She eats & drinks well, doesn't fall over, eyes are bright & is extremely tame to the point of dopiness. She's not laying yet but her comb is starting to colour up. Any ideas on the cause or possible treatment & are Orpingtons prone to this?

Thanks for any help

Janet

It's as if her neck is double-jointed. Other half agrees that we should leave well alone - the last visit with a hen to the vets didn't go down well. I got some good advice from the Co-op pharmacist as I went in for vitamin E with selenium, which I'd read you should use for crook neck. He advised against as I wouldn't know the dosage rate & an excess would be harmful. Had a good long chat about hen health in there, seemed more clued up than many a vet.

Hi, there are some good poultry tonics that contain vit E, try Lifeguard. A lot of feed shops sell it or you can buy online or Omlet do Biolink

Here's a couple of links for poultry vits online :D
