Chickendoodle
I have just subscribed to the 2014 blanket knitting club in the Violet Green website and thought I would share as it looks really good. You get wool and emailed instructions every month for a different square which will eventually become a quite large blanket. As the year goes on the theme will emerge! The 2012 one was arts and crafts and last year was a natural life theme. Always been a bit reluctant to start something so large (got halfway through a patchwork quilt and gave up) but as this is only 1 a month each one should only take a few days. Here is the link http://www.violetgreen.co.uk/2014-mystery-blanket-knitting-club/?added-to-cart=318 and here is the picture of the 2013 blanket http://www.violetgreen.co.uk/category/2013-blanket-knitting-club/ Wish me luck
Olly
That's a great website - and I see she has some free knitting patterns. I got a book on knitting socks at Christmas, I am determined to conquer the sock this year. The blanket is a great idea, but I was a bit at the price, I bet it's lovely pure wool though. Keep us updated on progress, won't you.
Purplemaniacs
The 2013 one looked nice but it is a lot of money for something that you might not like I like the idea of doing something through the year. It's a shame you can't pay each month but if it is 10 months that is still £15.00 per month. Good luck Chickendoodle. Let us know how you are getting on each month Chrissie
Chickendoodle
That's a great website - and I see she has some free knitting patterns. I got a book on knitting socks at Christmas, I am determined to conquer the sock this year. The blanket is a great idea, but I was a bit at the price, I bet it's lovely pure wool though. Keep us updated on progress, won't you. I have become obsessed by knitting socks and I found her free pattern the easiest one to understand. There is a calculator where you put in the foot measurements and get the exact size sock you need to make as well. My OH loves the socks. I also scoured YouTube to find a tutorial as the instructions make more sense when you can see a sock being knitted. There are loads of different methods of making socks but I find the traditional one makes sense to me. I can knit a sock in a couple of evenings which gives me little projects in between doing jumpers etc. I have used some wool from the violet green shop - it is expensive but beautiful, particularly the hand dyed stuff. Hoping I will like the blanket design as the ones from previous years were lovely. My Mum was a good knitter and I regret that I didn't keep any of the beautiful baby clothes she made as it would have been lovely to pass them down. I have 2 daughters and my idea is that I will pass this down ( might mean i have to make another one next year ! )
Mrs Webmuppet
I too am a big fan of the Violet Green sock calculator. Shame it doesn't go up to my Dads shoe size though.........
