gavclojak
That would be good, they have rescue points all over the country, so bound to be one local, so good to see those girls going to their new homes, bless them some did make a fuss! Others were just resigned to their fate...If only they knew:)
LottyJ1
So glad it went well! The rescue days are a strain physically and mentally but so worth it!
redsunset
Well done to you and OH. Saw on Facebook that they re homed 401,500+ so yes they did well. I bet they all woke up to a new life today in wonderment but will soon adopt normal chook traits as soon as instinct sets in....
gavclojak
ah what was sweet was during the rehoming, they were offloaded in to a stable with woodchips on the floor, there was a tiny, scrawny, little girl with no feathers and the palest face but she was going gung ho digging around in the woodchip...chaos all around her but she was intent on looking for whatever might be hiding in those wood chips...bless her.. libby22
How wonderful. I bet you will be floating on this high for some time to come and you thoroughly deserve to I can imagine how emotional it must have been. The BHWT are just angels. One of my girls was beyond terrified, even after several months. She was almost black as she didn't dust bathe and the oil in her feathers was so old. She has been free for 15 months now but still screams if another chicken goes by her, at which point they promptly pin her down and try to poke her eyes out She therefore rules the roost in her own WIR and tells the other girls off from a safe distance of a 6 inch gap between the pens Even with the door open, she refuses to come out. Never thought you could damage a chicken emotionally, but this one has firmly said - no chickens in my vicinity - I've had enough, just leave me to get on with my day! Did you come across many girls who were injured or in need of special attention for a while? Hopefully my little one will keep going for a while, but it is something I wanted to look into for the future, especially as I have the set up and someone at home all day and I wasn't sure of the position at the BHWT with this sort of thing. gavclojak
There were a few girls that were kept behind and sent home with the foster carers, one was bleeding from being pecked:( another was disorientated and kept lolling to one side:( I hope that was stress?? and one with a lumpy eye:{ all in all not too bad from such a huge amount of girls. gavclojak
Thanks everyone, and yes, I wanted the small, bald, wonky beaked featherless girls and one who had not one neck feather but big feathers on her head! As I picked her up for a quick cuddle she buried her head in My coat and stayed there! I couldn't believe it!! I wanted her so bad but all those girls had homes already booked and it was their fate to go to the new homes that day:)
