Millie-Annie
Meva my Crested Cream Legbar has started laying eggs that are getting longer and thinner every day. Todays looked like a torpedo The shells are fine, the colour (blue) is fine and the innards are fine, they are just an odd shape. Any ideas anyone? Oh she is approx. 7 months old
sjp
I always thought it was an age thing but a couple of green egg laying CLB crosses lay them but their mother who's 4 or 5 years old still lays 'proper shaped' eggs as do their sisters and daughters who lay non green/blue eggs it must be something to do with the mussels in the egg duct
Ain't Nobody Here
I had the odd torpedo from my Columbine when she was alive. She always reverted to egg shaped eggs .
keyhole kate
I have a buff Orp hen hatched Sept 2013 who I suspect is the culprit of long thin torpedo eggs not laying every day as yet I have had two so far It must be her no one else is big enough
Beantree
I'd check for red mite in the coop. Then worm her with Flubenvet. Both these pests can reduce the egg size and frequency. We have Wyandottes that lay rather long thin eggs. Fine to eat but no good for hatching.
