Shirl
Hi I'm new to chicken keeping and have just bought my first eglu. I'd like to get an ex battery hen and a couple of pekins. Would they be able to live together? Should I get the ex battery and then the pekins 2 weeks later to give it time to recover? I'm not sure how it would be living by itself for a couple of weeks. Thanks Shirl

Christian
Hi Shirl and welcome to the forum! Chcikens are flock animals and aren't very good living on their own. It would try and get them all at the same time if you could. Or get the pekins first and try and introduce the battery hens later. Whatever you decide, you will love keeping hens. They are fab! Shirl
Getting them at the same time isn't a problem I just didn't want a poor hen pecked battery hen even more hen pecked . If you think they'll be OK I'll get them all at once. We're only getting 3 hens because we've only got the one little eglu Cool names for your chicken Christianl. Shirl (short for Shirley incase you didn't guess ) On smilee overload today because I'm getting Chickens!!!!
Christian
In theory the battery hen would be older and bigger than the other 2. So it shouldn't be bullied. Some people don't recommend mixing large and small chickens, but others have done it with no problems. I guess it just depends on the personalities. Fab name isn't it?
