The Dogmother
They should continue for a couple more days Egluntine, but there hasn't been a very good show this year at all, not many meteors that is. It should have been good, especially as there's no moon at the moment so you can see them better. they appear every year, but it's not often that you get a moonless night when they're around. The meteors are pretty bright, so you should be able to see them from the north east even in your back garden, but you'd get a better view if there is less light pollution and you are in the middle of nowhere. The Leonids are due in November, let's hope for a clear night then...
Egluntyne
This all takes me back to when my son was doing his Astronomers badge with the cubs. We used to stand outside with binoculars, and a flask of cocoa and wore forty layers of clothing to keep out the cold on crisp starry nights. It is a lovely memory actually. I'm filling up here! Martin B
Visibility was so poor last night but there was a clear patch for about 40minutes and I managed to see a couple of meteors. Apparently there is some sort of meteor shower on my birthday this year, October 17th which is quite exciting.

The Dogmother
There are a couple of other little meteor showers before then, but the Leonids are usually pretty good. We just need some clear nights. Your kitchen roof sounds like Phil's; he has skylights in his kitchen and bathroom... he lies in the bath and watches the stars
kissinuk
It's also worth looking out for the International Space Station which has passed over several times in the last few nights and will do all week. It looks like a really bright star and currently has the Shuttle attached which makes it even more interesting. Have a look for your nearest town here to check out the times:- http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/skywatch.cgi?country=United+Kingdom
