Caroline
oh and they're SO cute and tiny!! ......... and brave!! we didn't even know they'd hatched until a neighbour found one making a break for it down the lane!! poor lost duckling!! anyway, he brought it back to mum and they're all happy. We've got two. awwwwww now then, a question too - there are two eggs that haven't hatched yet. They should have all hatched together right? (They all went in together) Do I leave those ones? Take them out?? Not really sure what to do. She's being a brilliant mum so far so I am very proud of her!!

Lesley
Is the duck still sitting Caroline? - if she is, I'd leave the remaining eggs for a few days. If she's abandoned them and is out with the two ducklings all the time, then I would remove them. They are so cute
Caroline
brilliant Lesley, thanks - exactly what I needed to know. She is still sitting. None of them have been out of the duck house yet (on purpose - one rolled down the ramp!) but she is still sitting on the eggs and the babies when they're not pottering about beside her. I've not been to see them this morning although Pete has so I@m just on my way out now to tell them awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Caroline
ok so they're not quiteas cute as they were but hey, I guess they have to grow right?! the ducklings are looking more like 'ugly ducklings'... at least one is... by the day! they also grow every time you look at them!!!!! They're 4 weeks old now and they're HUGE!!! The duck seems to think they need protecting now whereas when they were tiny, she let you handle them. These days, she goes mental, biting and shaking your sleeve and stuff!! Wouldn't be at all surprised if the 'yellow' (or at least WAS yellow and is now a kind of dirsty brown) turns out to be other than an Indian Runner - a Bali cross or something as it has a little tuft on the back of it's head!! Anyway, pics...
Lesley
Aaaaahhhh!! aren't they cute! I think our duckling is a similar age isn't it? - he/she looks a bit 'ugly duckling' as well at the moment, just turning from yellow to white. Caroline
I had thought our yellowy one might get to be a pale colour, maybe fawn but it's definitely looking very 'mallard' at the moment.... at least it's looking mallard duck though, no blue yet. And I say mallard..... it has this 'tuft' at the back of it's head! It's definitely runner shaped but I've never seen a bali duckling and can't find a picture so.......... the other one is getting wing feathers too, they're a beautiful dark brown/black with a definite petrol blue about them. It's gunna be gorgeous!!!
Lesley
It's like watching the chicks to see what they are going to feather up like. We have hybrid X's so they are all different. I think your two ducklings will be gorgeous! Our ducks will just be white though . We're hoping this one is female and we can keep her. All males last year. Caroline
we're hoping for at least one duck otherwise the original duck could be in BIG trouble!!!! We've had a few offers of people who will take drakes for us which is good, I'd hate to have to............... They're FAR too cute! I'm hopeful that the lighter one will be a duck though - it's looking pretty brown so far. Haven't vented them or anything so we'll just have to wait and see. A guy along the road from us keeps ducks and he had a mallard sitting. She hatched six eggs (good girl!) and ALL SIX were drakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
